Dennis Bury (PSY393 Personality)

Dennis Bury is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, a Chartered Scientist, a Member of Scientists for Global Responsibility (inter alia). He is guest editor of a journal and has been a trained therapist in a number of different psychological methods for over forty years. Now retired from active consultancy he focuses his research interests in depression prevention, psychology of dictators and pastoral care/counselling of people awaiting diagnosis for threatening illness. Dennis Bury’s teaching subject is Personality and here he has an interest in models of assessment. The course he teaches is a simulation exercise focusing on deriving profiles and experiencing what it feels like to be in the position of a psychologist dealing with ethics, intractable behaviours in the world of media and work. The course is oriented towards acknowledging how psychology can be used oppressively unless limitations are acknowledged. dbury@syr.edu
